HIV is mostly transmitted through unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Transmission of HIV is also possible when using drugs. Babies can become infected with HIV during birth or breastfeeding. The risk of HIV transmission during oral sex is very low.
You cannot catch HIV through ordinary day-to-day contact. There is no risk of transmission when you are sharing an apartment, during work, leisure or sports activities. So you do not need to be afraid of HIV in your everyday life.
